A life in letters: Hancock, Tony (1924-1968)
Comedian and actor, who had a major success on BBC radio and
television in the 1950s with Hancock’s
Half Hour. I don’t recall watching Hancock as a child, although I was aware
of his name. What I do recall was the mingled delight and shock of watching a
boy in our Primary School playground chanting the syllables of the comedian’s
name while pointing to the homonyminous
parts of his anatomy.
